Week 4 blog: How will I measure my life?

There are many  ways people measure the success of their lives. People can base the success of their lives, in the many things they have accomplished, whether it is what they achieved within their career, or what they have done to become a better person. Something that I liked that I watched this week, was how important it is to do something that you love. It is not important to seek for a job just because of how much it pays, but rather it is important to look at the satisfaction you will receive. When you choose to do something that you love to do, you will inherently be better at what you do.  It is not important to measure yourself to others and what they accomplish. It is important to measure yourself against what you want to become. As you progress in life, it is important to constantly evaluate where you are at as a person, and what kind of a person you want to be in the future. As you constantly evaluate your position in relation to that, you are able to realize what y...

Week 3: Ethics

What I learned: There is nothing in this world that is worth compromising my integrity for. There may be things that we may think that it is not a big deal, and that no one will know what we've done, but in reality, it will always be a big deal, regardless what we think it is. When we decide to cheat or lie for more gains in the workplace, then we are compromising who we are as a person. As we become people who are proven to be trustworthy, others will recognize our qualities. To most people there are no values that are valued more than honesty and integrity. At the end of the day, what do we want to recognized for? What kind of person do we want to be seen as by others? I think that these are some of the most important questions, because in the end of the day, we need to act in accordance with the kind of person we want to be. We can't hope that people will think of us in a positive light if we go around and do things that compromise our integrity. Rather as we consistently d...

Week 2 blog: Goals

Things I learned: This week we went and learned a lot about finding long term goals, and charting a course to get there. It was interesting to read about Randy Pausch, who set out many different longshot goals in a wide variety of areas, and then ended up completing a large portion of them. I believe that he was able to accomplish a large portion of these, because he was willing to put in the work and effort to make it happen. The opportunities to achieve these goals didn't present themselves to him, rather he presented himself to the people who could make it happen. He went on and did a wide variety of things that even some of the most brilliant people won't do, because it took more than just pure intelligence to do them. It requires a certain determination and will power to accomplish them. He earnestly sought out the people who would help him along the way, as well as earnestly sought to be the guy that was most qualified to do it. For example, the Imagineering opportunity ...

Week 1

Things I learned:  Throughout all the readings and videos that I watched this week, one common theme stuck out across them all. Being an entrepreneur isn't about being worried about the money, but rather it is finding something that you love to do first, then finding a way to make it marketable. The only problem is trying to figure out a niche in a market in which you specialize, and love to do. For example, Guy Kawasaki could have become a lawyer, and tried to fulfill the expectations that surrounded him, but once he started law school, he realized that he hated it and dropped out completely. He then found something he did love to do, and along the way, made money doing it. At the end of "Entrepreneurial hero", it talked about measuring the success of an entrepreneur. It showed three questions to measure what you've done, which were ,"Did I accomplish something meaningful? Was I a good person? Who loved me and who did I love?" I feel that this really boils ...
