Week 5: Skill, Character, or Luck
Things I learned: I thought it was interesting how many entrepreneurs in different fields all felt the same way about what it took in order for them to become successful. They all said that skill is vital in terms of becoming a successful entrepreneur. They talked about the need to find skills that were able to set you apart from everyone else, and then honing them in, in order to allow for their business to be able to take off. Skill is what allows for people go from having the idea that is worth money, to making it an actual business that brings in money. They then talked about the role that character plays in becoming a successful entrepreneur. Character is required to become successful, because this is what will move the business into action. You need to have a work ethic, and diligence about your work. In order to become successful, you need to look beyond the roadblocks in front of you, and keep pushing past them. The last aspect that these entrepreneurs talked about was luck. They would all say that luck had a role in terms of the amount of money that they had made, however they would all tell you that they would have become successful regardless of how much luck they had in their favor. I think it is interesting how many people in the world say that if only they had better luck in the world, they would have become more successful. Many people may have the ideas that could launch a successful business, however not anyone can make them work. It requires more than the idea. It requires hard work, diligence, and often requires people to be pushed beyond their boundaries of comfort. People need to put themselves and their ideas out to the world in order to be able to see any small amount of success as a business.
Things I have not yet learned: What can I do to develop the type of character required to create a successful business? How can I find the skill that I should hone in on? What is the first step to take after an idea? How do I find the right direction to move with any skill?
