Week 6: What does it take to be an entrepreneur?
What I have learned: This week I have learned a lot about not only what is required to be a successful entrepreneur, but also what it takes to be successful throughout life. It is important to see that you have a balance between the work that you do, and other important aspects of your life, such as family, and religion. To be successful as an entrepreneur requires a lot of different character traits. It requires that you are humble, in that you need to be willing to see whether or not an idea is going to work, and be willing to move on when an idea fails. It is important that you have the ability to constantly learn from everyone around you. You need to willing to put your whole heart into the business, and give it whatever it needs in order for it to survive. It will require long hours, and a lot of sacrifice. You need to be willing to give up the status quo of having a normal job, that has regular pay, and regular hours. To be a successful entrepreneur, it does not require that you are the smartest person alive. Anyone can have good ideas. You don't need to study every possible field, but rather you just need to find a small niche in an industry, and specialize there. As you specialize in a small area that you excel at, you are more able to see the needs of that are, and are more likely to be able to find an idea that is marketable, and profitable. To be successful in life, you need to be willing to draw boundaries between what you are and are not willing to do. You need to look at all of the aspects of your life, and prioritize them from most to least important. As you are able to look beyond your career as the most important and realize life isn't an endless chase trying to make the most money possible. Being successful in life has very little to do with the success you had in your career, and more to do with the way you are perceived by others. In the end, the way we treat others, and show others that they have a important part in our lives is how we can find success in life.
Things I still need to learn: I am looking forward to learning how to find the appropriate balance between my future career and my family. How do I learn at what point that enough is enough? I need to learn a lot more about what is required to find successful opportunity as it crosses me, and how to take full advantage of the opportunities that come my way.
