Week 8: Overcoming challenges

Things I learned: Often times we need to change our way of thinking in order to become a successful entrepreneur. We can't follow the same path of logic from problem to solution, rather it is important to think of solutions, and their applications to problems. In this line of thinking, as we come up with ideas, it will be easy to get discouraged by those who do not share that same vision. Often times there will be roadblocks between your ideas, and the success you could have. Success will not come from just having good ideas. It takes effort, time, and dedication to create success. It is very important to be able to not just look at the problem at hand, but the roots of all the problems that occur. As you fix problems at the roots, rather than just at the surface, you are more likely to not be faced with similar problems. Problems usually don't occur out of nothing. There is usually a cause to the problem that could have been avoided. When problems arise it is important to not...

Week 7: Building habits

Things I learned: This week I read about Stephen Covey's 7 habits of successful people. The seven habits that he discusses are first, be proactive, then begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win/win, seek to understand, and then be understood, synergize, and finally sharpen the saw. These habits are all critical in finding success. It is important to focus on self-mastery first, and then go on to collaborate with others. As you go on and learn to effectively collaborate with people, it will allow you to achieve more. Everyone working together will accomplish a lot more than everyone working The habit that I took the most notice to was putting first things first. It is critical to make sure that you get all of the necessary tasks in a timely manner. It is critical to make sure that you categorize all of the tasks you have in terms of what matters the most to do. As you organize the tasks at hand, along with the time that you have in the day, you are more able to...

Week 6: What does it take to be an entrepreneur?

What I have learned: This week I have learned a lot about not only what is required to be a successful entrepreneur, but also what it takes to be successful throughout life. It is important to see that you have a balance between the work that you do, and other important aspects of your life, such as family, and religion. To be successful as an entrepreneur requires a lot of different character traits. It requires that you are humble, in that you need to be willing to see whether or not an idea is going to work, and be willing to move on when an idea fails. It is important that you have the ability to constantly learn from everyone around you. You need to willing to put your whole heart into the business, and give it whatever it needs in order for it to survive. It will require long hours, and a lot of sacrifice. You need to be willing to give up the status quo of having a normal job, that has regular pay, and regular hours. To be a successful entrepreneur, it does not require that...

Week 5: Skill, Character, or Luck

Things I learned: I thought it was interesting how many entrepreneurs in different fields all felt the same way about what it took in order for them to become successful. They all said that skill is vital in terms of becoming a successful entrepreneur. They talked about the need to find skills that were able to set you apart from everyone else, and then honing them in, in order to allow for their business to be able to take off. Skill is what allows for people go from having the idea that is worth money, to making it an actual business that brings in money. They then talked about the role that character plays in becoming a successful entrepreneur. Character is required to become successful, because this is what will move the business into action. You need to have a work ethic, and diligence about your work. In order to become successful, you need to look beyond the roadblocks in front of you, and keep pushing past them. The last aspect that these entrepreneurs talked about was luc...
