Semester in Review

Entrepreneurship is not an activity. Being an entrepreneur is a state of mind, not a state of being. A successful entrepreneur is not someone who has made tons of money, or someone who has multiple businesses. A successful entrepreneur is someone who has made a lasting impact on the world around them. A successful entrepreneur is someone who has strong character, and determination to accomplish something. Success in not measured in the money, you earn, but rather the person that you become. No one will care how much money you made in the end, rather they will remember you for what kind of person you were. A successful entrepreneur is someone who left a lasting impact for good. No one starts out as a successful entrepreneur. You develop into one over time. In order to achieve success, you need to go at it time and time again. You will stumble along your path to success. The important thing is to know what direction to stumble in. You will make mistakes on the path to success, and you wi...

Week 13: Journey of Gratitude

Things I learned: This week I learned about the importance of recognizing where you are at. At any point in the entrepreneurial journey, there are always things that we have to be grateful for. We have to constantly go and find things to be grateful for. There will always be situations in which things may be going poorly, a business may fail, however, there are still things to be grateful for. As you have an attitude of gratitude, you are more able to overcome these obstacles that get in your way. If you look at how far you have gotten, and you realize you much you have grown as a result of this, you are able to look at things differently. When you are grateful, you realize how not to take things for granted. Rather you learn to appreciate even the small things. These small things help you to pay more attention to the details in life. As a result of this, you are able to take a fuller advantage of the opportunities that come your way, because you realize more how much the opportun...

Week 12: Becoming a Changemaker

Things I learned: This week I read an article titled What's a business for , by Charles Handy. It was interesting to see the amount of distrust that existed against the executives at corporations. According to a study, 43% of Americans believe that senior level executives are in it for themselves, while in Britain that jumps to 95%. As a result of this amount of distrust that exists against these corporations, many people are hesitant to invest in these companies, because they do not believe they are out to help society. This will in turn lead to a decrease in the production that these companies will be able to have, causing a deadweight loss to society. It is important in business to constantly show that you have the consumers best interest in mind. As you constantly try to be honest and have integrity in business, it will allow for people to gain more trust in the business, and allow you to be more successful. People are reluctant to buy from a business they don't trust. Acc...

Week 11: Measure the cost

Things I learned: Money is not the most important thing out there. It is more important to be a good person. As you focus on trying to make difference, you will be doing something bigger than just trying to make money. Entrepreneurship isn't about trying to make the most money. A quote that I thought was interesting was," Regardless where you end up in the rat race, you are still just a rat." It won't matter in the long run how much money you made, but rather it will be more important the kind of person you were. As you try to be a good person, that is what people remember about you. On the other hand, you need to do something that makes money. You can't just refuse to make money just to focus on being the best person. You need to make a living, not just because you need to live, but there will be others that will be dependent on the income you make. Money won't lead to higher levels of happiness. It is important that regardless of how much you end up making, ...

Week 10: Dream big dreams

Things I learned: This week I learned about the importance of setting high goals. There always needs to be something else to aspire to do. There is never going to be a point of the mountain. There is always something else to achieve. It doesn't matter what you are doing, there can always be something else to accomplish. Never look at where you are and decide that it is good enough. Getting contempt with where you are will keep you from getting to where you could be. It is important to constantly reevaluate where you are in terms of your goals, and what new goals you could make. It is important to set goals in terms of the business that you have, along with goals for yourself as a person. In the end the only thing that matters will not be what you accomplished with your business, but rather what you accomplished as a person. People will remember you for the kind of person that you were. Always try to evaluate where you are in your journey of becoming a better person, and what you n...

Week 9: Leadership

Things I learned: In order to be a good entrepreneur, you need to be able to become a good leader. People are willing to follow a leader who leads by example. It is important to constantly demonstrate the principles and actions you want seen from others in your daily life. In order to get people to follow you, you need to become someone who people would want to follow. It is important to constantly demonstrate the qualities of a good leader at all times. Leading is key to entrepreneurship, because achieving any goal is impossible on your own. You need the help of others to get anything accomplished. In order to get people onboard with your vision, you need to demonstrate that this goal is something that they should be passionate about, by showing your passion. It is important as a leader to create a culture within your company that will allow you to achieve the most. Leading is the most important tool you can have as an entrepreneur, because without a leader, no one will know the ...

Week 8: Overcoming challenges

Things I learned: Often times we need to change our way of thinking in order to become a successful entrepreneur. We can't follow the same path of logic from problem to solution, rather it is important to think of solutions, and their applications to problems. In this line of thinking, as we come up with ideas, it will be easy to get discouraged by those who do not share that same vision. Often times there will be roadblocks between your ideas, and the success you could have. Success will not come from just having good ideas. It takes effort, time, and dedication to create success. It is very important to be able to not just look at the problem at hand, but the roots of all the problems that occur. As you fix problems at the roots, rather than just at the surface, you are more likely to not be faced with similar problems. Problems usually don't occur out of nothing. There is usually a cause to the problem that could have been avoided. When problems arise it is important to not...
